What is The Canine Collective (Co-Op)?– We are a network of seasoned rescue professionals who have come together to offer care and support for homeless dogs in central Ohio. Dogs in our program are examined by a veterinarian, vaccinated, spayed or neutered, started on preventative medications and temperament tested. We want to make the dogs next home is its final home, so we screen all applicants to ensure a good match between the dog and its new family.
We are a mixed breed rescue, meaning we save the lives of any dog regardless of its pedigree. Some of our volunteers have knowledge and experience with particular breeds, while others prefer the All American mutt. Any dog regardless of its pedigree can find itself homeless, therefore we help all dogs.
Where is The Canine Collective (Co-Op) located? – Most of the dogs in our program are in foster homes throughout Columbus and the surrounding areas. We also have some that are housed at a boarding kennel until a foster home becomes available or they find their new home.
Where do The Canine Collective (Co-Op) dogs come from? – Since our group is made up of seasoned rescue professionals, most of the dogs in our program are referred to us by area shelters and humane societies in which we have great working relationships. They refer dogs to us that are scheduled to be put to sleep due to shelter overcrowding, hold time limits, or because they are scared of the shelter environment. Often times we have more time and resources to work with the dogs to get them adopted into loving homes.
